M3 - Discuss health, safety or security concerns arising from a specifc inciient or
emergency in a health or social care setng
In this assignment, I will be discussing health, safety and security concerns arising from incidents of actual abuse in
children and fre in an infant school.
Inciients of actual abuse in chiliren;
Incidents of actual abuse in children would have health, safety and security concerns in an infant school...
Health concerns; A health concern of actual abuse in children would be physical and psychological harm.
Physical symptoms of abuse are bruises, burns, scalds, bite marks, fractures, broken bones or scarring. This is
extremely dangerous because children's bodies are more vulnerable than adults so it is easy to severely
harm them or even kill them. The efects of physical abuse can carry on into the child's adulthood, for
example, they may start not doing well at school, taking part in criminal behaviour or the using drugs and
alcohol. Furthermore, psychological symptoms of abuse are anxiety, depression, sleeping problems, anger,
low self-esteem, self-destructng behaviour or difculty trustng others. These will have an extremely
negatve efect on the fuality of a child's life, they may start feeling like life is not worth living and the worst-
case scenario is suicide if the child can no longer take the abuse.
Safety concerns; A safety concern of actual abuse in children would be letng the child go home. Once the
child reports the abuse to an adult, it will take some tme for social services to take acton or to take the child
away from the abuse at home. Therefore, the infant school may stll have to let the child go home which
puts their safety at risk because they are susceptble to more abuse.
Security concerns; A security concern of actual abuse in children would be the wrong people fnding out. For
example, if the child is discussing the abuse in a public place around other people someone who shouldn't
know about it may hear the conversaton. eportng abuse is something that is private and shouldn't be
done in a public place. Other people fnding about the abuse can lead to rumours which is unnecessary and
can cause additonal stress for the child. For instance, if other children know about it they may bring it up to
the child who is being abused, which would bring back traumatsing memories and cause anxiety.
Fire;
Fire would have health, safety and security concerns in an infant school...
Health concerns; A health concern of a fre would be breathing in smoke from the fre. moke contains
carbon monoxide and cyanide which are harmful when breathed in because they cause irritaton, swelling
and blockage to the lungs and airways. These harmful substances usually come from burning rubber, coal,
plastc, or electrical wiring. This can lead to permanent health problems or even sufocaton because there is
not enough oxygen getng to the body cells.
Safety concerns; A safety concern of a fre would be the building crumbling down as it burns. This puts the
people on the upper foors at danger because they may fall down, as well as the people on the lower foors
because the building would collapse on them. This can lead to broken bones, disability or death.
Security concerns; A security concern of a fre would be important documents burning in the fre or getng
into the wrong hands. Documents such as medical reports, bank details or personal informaton. The infant
school would have to collect all those details again which would take a long tme. However, there is also a
possibility that the documents survived the fre but then other people could have access to them if the
building is not closed down properly. The danger of these getng into the wrong hands is that someone can
use them for their own advantage. For example, they may hack into the individual's bank account and take
their money out.
