P2 Explain what is meant by partnership working in the context of safeguarding

A variety of professionals will work together in order to safeguard children and young people. They
will work in partnership. These professionals will include teachers and other educaton staf and
social workers. This could include health service professionals like a paediatrician and voluntary
workers who will and can come into contact with children. This would involve schools, adult services
with local authorites and police ofcers. Directors of children’s services can also be involved as well
as chairs of local safeguarding children boards. These individuals will work together and collaborate
as they will put the needs of the child frst and make them the centre of focus in order to make sure
that they are in a safe environment. These professionals will work together to make sure that
vulnerable children and young people are protected against harm and danger. This will help to
empower children and young people as well as to prevent potental harm from occurring. (gov
2018).

Health care services will have specialist roles when working in partnership to safeguard children. In
these trusts all health professionals are likely to come into contact with children and young people.
These professionals will be trained in order to identfy signs of harm and abuse. For example, a
paediatrician in a hospital environment may be able to see signs of physical abuse with a child
patent. This could be by seeing bruises over their body. ttaf will also be made aware of policies and
procedures that they must follow if they suspect a child is a victm of child abuse. This could mean
that the paediatrician identfes these signs to a more senior staf member or a specifc staf member
who is experienced in child protecton measures. They may be able to gain a beter understanding of
the support that the child needs as well as understand the level of risk that the child faces. The
health care service will then alert local authorites and social services. Health care services have
specialist roles in the identfcaton of abuse and harm. For many children experiencing harm these
services can be the frst point of contact where abuse has been identfed. These services also have a
specialist role in working with other services and agencies in order to make sure that the child is
protected. (Heaney J 2003).

Police authorites have a specialist role in the protecton and safeguarding of children and young
people. The police authorites will work with other agencies like health care services and social
services in order to secure the welfare and protecton of children and young people. Their role is to
identfy children who may be at risk from harm, neglect and abuse, share this informaton to social
services and potentally remove children from situatons and environments that can be causing them
harm. This could that mean that police authorites work closely with health services or social services
to make sure that the welfare of children is paramount. The police will also have a duty to
investgate ofences against children and will work with these services and agencies to provide them
with informaton to help protect these vulnerable children. The police will also have emergency
powers that they can use in order to protect children. This could be to remove children from
dangerous environments. (justceinspectorates 2015).
