`Unit 18 – Managing a business event
M3 – Evaluate how a business event can inform future planning
D1 – Evaluate the management of a business event making
recommendatons for future improvements
When choosing methods to be used to evaluate how successful a business event was, in order to
inform us of future amendments to the business event, we must look at the diferent methods used
to be able to fnd which is the most informatve, how they helped to identfy problems and how they
help to provide solutons for future events. These diferent methods of review include delegate
questonnaires, debrief sessions, assessment of personal skills, event problems, solutons and
lessons we learnt which we will change in the future running of the event.
Delegate questonnaires are a set of questons with a selecton of answers which are given to
partcipants of the event for the purpose of statstcal study to assess whether they feel the event
was successful, and what in the event could be beter as well as what went well in the business. This
method is one of the most successful and reliable methods of collectng feedback due to it being
primary informaton, and therefore, from the partcipant of the event directly, rather than from
someone who simply heard of the event. These methods help to identfy problems due to the
questons being related to things which went wrong, as well as having open questons where the
partcipant can explain what they would have done diferently. For our delegate questonnaires, we
had both an electronic copy, which was the recording of the voice of the partcipants of the
questonnaire, as well as a hard copy, which we made afwer we transferred the informaton into a
word document, and subsequently printed of. Questonnaires can be useful as they give feedback
which the events organiser wants to fnd out, rather than secondary research, which will be less
relevant to our specifc event. Questonnaires are also quick to ask and are cheap to produce,
especially if asked using technology, removing the printng costs.
The results of a questonnaire can be useful in identfying problems with the survey as they provide
unbiased accounts of actual partcipants, who may have enjoyed or may not have enjoyed the event.
In additon, the informaton received is reliable and cannot be questoned due to it being the
customers who have writen the answers. It also helps to show the diference between group
attitudes in respect to a certain event.
A disadvantage with questonnaires is that people may not be truthful due to them feeling pressured
to vote in a certain way due to the people giving the surveys being present and pressuring them, or
they may vote the same as their friends so to vote for the most desirable answer. If there are not
many people answering feedback for this, it can also lack validity due to not many people actually
undertaking the survey, making it less representatve for the populaton.
The delegate questonnaires help to provide solutons for future events through the questons,
which could be writen in the future to directly ask whether the event could be changed.
To solve the problems presented by this, in future, we will create an anonymous quiz on social
media or through a website such as SurveyMonkey and give people access codes to be able to
answer the quiz without people watching, therefore, the chances of the feedback being skewed by
social pressures and pressure from the event organiser will be removed as much as possible due to
them being able to undertake the survey when others are not watching.
