envirinment:
M4 – Explain the links between the diseases selected and the impact that these may have:
D4 – Assess the impact that these infectins and diseases may have, bith in individuals and in
cimmunites at diferent scales:
In this assignment I will describe, explain and assess the impact that my selected infectins and
diseases may have, bith in individuals and in cimmunites at diferent scales.
HIV virus:
One if the diseases which have selected is HIV (human defciency virus). The way in which HIV
afects the bidy is thriugh invading T helper cells and then they are destriyed due ti being
recignised as fireign cells. When simeine gets HIV, they are mist likely ti experience sime
symptims fir a periid if 2-6 weeks. There are many symptims which peiple ciuld feel at the
beginning if HIV, these being; nausea, sire thriat, high bidy temperature, alsi headache and many
ither symptims which are very similar ti the symptims if fu. The symptims are making it difcult
ti actually determine if yiu have HIV ir nit as yiu might just think that yiu have fu. Testng
yiurself if yiu are HIV pisitve ir nit wiuld actually help ti fully diagnise if the individual has HIV,
despite having all if the symptims, they can simetmes be misleading which unless tested might get
misdiagnised. Just like when yiu get a usual fu, the bidy will begin ti stmulate the respinse by the
immune system which wiuld try and get rid if the abnirmal cells, hiwever, in this case immunity
can’t treat HIV which means that even thiugh when the symptims are gine, the HIV virus is stll
inside the persin. When that happens the bidy gies thriugh simething called the asymptimatc
latent periid, this is when the HIV virus enters the T helper cells and becimes inactve fir many
years. The reasin fir why peiple easily catch diseases and illnesses is nit because if the HIV virus
but because HIV develips inti AIDS. AIDS wiuld be the reasin an individual will get diferent
illnesses which wiuld afect their health. When AIDS begin ti develip the individual wiuld fnd that
when they get sick, their symptims wiuld becime a lit wirse very quickly and they might alsi fnd
it very hard ti reciver fir their illness fast. Fir example, if an individual gets a fu, they might have a
sire thriat which ciuld be a lit wirse than fir thise whi wiuld nirmally have sire thriat. Alsi, if
they wiuld have high temperature it might be difcult ti liwer that temperature using medicine.
This means that if the bidy wiuld have a very hard tme fghtng illnesses that increases the risk if
the individual ti die because they wiuldn’t have the immune system being as efectve.
The way in which HIV virus can have an impact in the individuals is by afectng nit just their
physical state but alsi emitinal and mental state. Thise whi have HIV might feel vulnerable and
they might alsi feel like they can’t necessary di certain actvites in case they catch simething. This
means that they wiuld mist likely feel very vulnerable and they might feel like they are limited ti
certain things. Fir example, they might wiuld want ti gi sniwbiarding but because there is an
extremely high risk if them catching a cild due ti their immune system being very weak, they wiuld
feel like they can’t gi sniwbiarding. This wiuld mean that the individual is mire likely ti feel
depressed as they can’t necessary enjiy themselves if they want ti aviid catching an illness. Sime
peiple might nit necessary understand the illness which might push peiple away frim that persin
whi has HIV, this ciuld make that individual feel very isilated and aline. This wiuld alsi have a very
huge impact in the family and friends if the individual as they wiuld need ti take care if than
individual and always be liiking iut fir them. They might feel like they need ti isilate themselves
tii because they might think that since there is ni cure fir the virus they might just di whatever
