Identify your selected healthcare policy priority and discuss the rationale for your selection. Describe the model of policy making that you feel would be best applied to your policy issue and the rationale for selecting this model. Dr. G and class, The healthcare policy I have selected to discuss is veared towards young teenagers and sex education. I have a background of working in the NICU so that is why this topic sparked my interest so much. We have tons of teenage moms that are far too young to be having children and sadly several of them also have STD’s. I feel that this topic is not discussed enough in Arkansas educational systems. In the state of AR there is only one week designated to educate young people about sex and the negative things that can occur from it. The problem with this one week is that it is done in either 6th or 7th grade among schools across this state.Arkansas advocates for abstinence-only education which is defined as promotion of sexual abstinence as the key or only strategy for prevention (Millner, et al, 2015). I agree that its important to start at this age with educating children about sex and the issues with it, but I also believe this topic should be emphasized more in the high school environment
