1st person - when the narrator is telling the story from his/her point of view, the word "I" is present outside of quotes. He, him, his, hers, its, they, them Hyperbole - A figure of speech using deliberate exaggeration or overstatement. Ex: I have to pee like a race horse. Metaphor - a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. Directly state opinion. Ex: Love is a battlefield. Personification - A figure of speech in which an object or animal is given human feelings, thoughts, or attitudes. Ex The sun smiled at us. Alliteration - The repetition of initial consonant sounds, such as "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
