, Session 1(Calibration of equipment)- To ensure lab safety I wore my lab coat and googles to
protect my eyes and body from the water and the salt. We made sure the workspace was
clean and organised, we followed the correct protocol and made sure that the switches were
off.
Session 2 (titration using indicator)- following the protocol accurately, I found that setting up
the experiment was easy when the workspace was cleared. We used burettes and pipettes
to make sure that the volume measurement is accurate. My colleagues and I mixed up where
the acid was meant to go and ended up putting the base in both the burette and the conical
flask, next time I will make sure that the beakers are labelled more clearly.
Session 3 (titration using pH meter)- following protocol, making sure that the pH was
calibrated properly, we used burettes and pipettes to make sure the volume measurements
are accurate, and the we made sure the pH meter was fully in the solution to make sure that
the reading was accurate.
Session 4 (titration with standard solution observation)- We followed all essential protocol,
made sure that any spills were cleaned up efficiently and promptly, we also made sure that
when making the standard solution to put all the washings from the funnel, glass rod and
beaker were put into the solution to make us able to see the endpoint of the reaction
accurately, except the one anomaly.
Session 5 (titration with indicator and pH meter)- We made sure to follow the correct
procedures, when calibrating the pH meters, and when performing the titrations. Our results
for this were more precise than our session 4 results which means that there was an
improvement. We also made sure that any spills were cleaned up quickly to prevent
damage.
Session 8 (colorimetry)- We made sure to wear the correct PPE and follow standard lab
procedures. We also made sure to keep the surface covered with paper towels in case of a
spillage, we tipped the bottle of CuSO4 upside down to get any condensation back into the
bottle, we also made sure that when taking the lids off, we put them upside down on the
table to make sure that the CuSO4 didn't get onto the table.
Session 9 (calibration of pipettes)- We made sure to wear PPE and follow standard lab
practices, we also made sure that we handled the glassware carefully to prevent breakage.
We also made sure to take note of our readings and tabulate them.
