Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) - A branch of the U.S. Department of Justice that regulates the sale and use of drugs. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) - the federal agency responsible for regulating alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives, and arson Policy - Set of guiding principles designed to influence behavior and decision making of police officers private security - security services provided by private corporations or individuals instead of by police officers domestic violence - any act of violence involving family members or intimate relationships Mandatory arrest law - Requires a police officer to detain a person for committing a certain type of crime, as long as there is probable cause that they committed a crime Bureaucracy - A highly organized body of workers with many levels of authority delegation of authority - the process by which authority is distributed downward in an organization sworn officer - a law enforcement officer who is authorized to perform full police duties Preventative patrol - High visibility with focus on presence and prevention, 40% of time
