P5 / M3

There are many physical and psychological effects of ageing. One physical effect
could be if she developed osteoarthritis. This is a long term condition that affects the
joints. The surfaces within the joints become damaged, so the joint doesn’t move as
smoothly as it should. Some of the cartilage covering the ends of the bones become
rougher and thinner over time and the bone underneath thickens. If Kim Kardashian
developed this ,one of the effects could be if she has exercised or engaged in
strenuous activity, the pain in her joints could be worsened towards the end of the
day. This may make it difficult for her to move and she would be likely to hear her
joints cracking.
This may affect Kim’s self esteem and confidence as it may make her feel as though
she has to stay inside a lot and not go out with her friends as she will experience lots
of pain if she does go out and would rather not have the effects of strenuous activity.
This condition could affect her confidence because if she is not getting involved in
strenuous activity then she may lose confidence in her overall health and how it
could go downhill.

Another physical effect of ageing, is that Kim could develop a hearing If she
developed a
hearing impairment with age. A type of hearing impairment she could develop is a
conductive hearing loss. This occurs when there is an prevention of passage or
damage to the outer or middle ear that prevents sound from being conducted to the
inner ear. This type of hearing impairment can be temporary or permanent but this is
dependent of the cause. When she is ageing this may become a struggle because if
she needed a carer, then there is a possibility that she could find it difficult to
communicate with them if they didn’t know her then they may not even be able to
conversate with her.
This may affect Kim’s self esteem and confidence because she may feel less
confident in talking to others, especially carers as she may feel as though it will be
harder to interact with them and she may also feel as though they’ll get frustrated
with her.

Cardiovascular disease is usually a buildup of fatty deposits inside the arteries and
can increase the risk of blood clots. Cardiovascular disease can also be associated
with damage to the arteries in organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys. If Kim
develops this disease then it could affect her physically because a long term effect of
this is having symptoms such as swelling and dizziness. Therefore, this could
interfere with her daily life.
This may affect Kim’s self esteem because she may feel as though she cannot
proceed with her daily tasks without her condition interfering and therefore may feel
as though her self worth will be brought down and will then knock her confidence.

Kims vision may also deteriorate as she ages. She may experience symptoms such
as losing the focusing ability for near vision, this can occur when the lens inside the
eye becomes less flexible. This flexibility allows the eye to change focus from objects
that are far away to objects that are close. However, she could regain clear vision if
she went to the options early enough and reviewed her options, which would include
having contact lenses, glasses or a laser surgery procedure.
