CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
To improve the procedures instead of using the measurements and

carried out, in order to have better control of the volume. A piston burette
is more accurate than a volumetric burette because it has a more precise
bore and plunger which make it have more control over the solution being
dispensed.
The piston burette also has an advantage over the volumetric burette.
When registering the colour change in order to stop transferring sodium
hydroxide to the solution, the human ocular level may affect our reflexes,
causing us to transfer excess sodium hydroxide that will cause inaccurate
results. But this will not be the case with a piston burette because it is an
automatic burette, which means it automatically shut its valve, and this
would reduce errors.
When transferring the solution from burette to the conical flask cause
room for error as some of the solution may remain on the walls of the
conical flask, this will result in loss of solution. Another way to go about it,
to have more accurate results, is to rinse the walls of the conical with
distilled water as you are transferring the solution while swirling. This
would allow the solution to be titrated properly.
We used a standard analytical balance which was giving a variation of
results, this may have been due to mechanical fault or environmental
factors. In order to reduce the inaccurate results, we could make sure that
the temperature of the balance and sample being weight are the same
and ensure that the balance is mechanically vented (closed-off weighing
balance to avoid environmental errors).
In the experiment we were provided with a manual propipetter which was
adjusted by turning the wheel with the thumb to draw up the solution in a
pipette, a better instrument could be an automatic propipetter because
we had difficulties turning the wheel as it would stop after it reaches a
certain height, and this caused the liquid to drain back into the beaker.
Meanwhile the automatic propipetter is adjusted by pressing the button
and toggling the switch, which means it as the ability to keep drawing up
the solution till the button is released.
