Amelia Gruner-Overgaard M1- Business Resources

In order to maintain the smooth running of businesses' operations it is important that Human,
Physical and Technological resources are managed correctly.

Human Resources
Human resources are the people who are employed by ‘Harvey’s Products LTD’, such as cleaners,
department managers and department assistants. A Human Resources department, make sure
employees are happy at work and they ensure ‘Harvey’s Products LTD’ employ the 'right' applicant
and employ the correct amount of employees is crucial for the business. Employees must hold the
specific skills, experience and qualifications for their job role.

The impact of not managing Human Resources at ‘Harvey’s Products LTD’:

The impact of not managing human resources correctly have a high impact on the business. A lack of
communication between employees and managers can create conflict as a relationship will not be
created. This could decrease productivity, as employees may not feel like they are part of the
business or aren't as important as other employees. Without communication voices may not be
heard and employees may feel like they aren't being treated fairly.

With a rise of absenteeism (employees not turning up to work), this would lead to an increase of
demotivated staff as they will feel like they can't be bothered to work as others aren't either. Other
employees may need to work more hours due to the lack of employees, and in turn begin to feel
frustrated and try to find another job. 'Harvey's Products LTD' already have a high turnover of staff, if
this was to increase any more there would be a huge problem with the amount of employees and
the business would begin to fail.

Demotivated staff will have a huge impact on the standard of customer service at ‘Harvey’s Products
LTD’, if staff aren't working to the best of their ability the production chain might not flow accurately,
leading to a decrease in the total amount of products made. With less products being sold,
customers won't be satisfied with the service. Therefore, ‘Harvey’s Products LTD’ will lose customers
and gain a bad reputation, impacting on the amount of future customers, which would affect their
annual profit.

The separation of professional from private activities is critical for employees to gain the right
balance between the two. If managers were to increase the work load of employees, their home life
would feel pressure.

To overcome this, employees should prioritise the tasks that need completing, else they'll find
themselves working excess hours. Employees may feel obligated to take on certain tasks, but if it isn't
in their job specification, then they do not need to accept the tasks from their manager. Some
employees may feel frustrated if their work/home life isn't balanced and this could show in their
work and lead to a decrease in 'Harvey's Products LTD' profit.

Many of these will lead to inefficiency in the work place, less output per worker and therefore
leading to a loss in business profits.

Incentives- Rewarding employees at ‘Harvey’s Products LTD’:

There are many ways businesses can reward their employees, from praising them to paying them in
bonuses. Bonuses can be performance related pay, so if a particular member of staff is going above
and beyond then this will be recognised and they will be paid in money or shares. Sometimes
employees work on a commission rate, so they get a percentage of the profit of what they sold etc.
