M2: Explain the reasons for choosing the particular method of data collection for a selected
product/service.
In this assignment I am going to explain the reasons for choosing my particular
method of data collection for my selected product/service. I will also be explaining
the importance of the chosen method of data as well as why it was best fitting for my
product/service.
During my research, I felt that the best possible way to maximise my outcome and
provide the best answers was by conducting a questionnaire. The reason for this is
because i feel that a questionnaire provides a range of different options which can
maximise the input of the applicant’s answers. The reasons for me choosing a
questionnaire in summary is because of the following pro’s:
● Data can be collected efficiently meaning the effort put in to collect answers is
much less compared to other methods of primary research, such as focus
groups which are time consuming and also less sociable.
● Productivity is worked according to your speed. This means the speed of
distributing the questionnaires to the students of Uxbridge College (in my
case) can be determined to your own speed and fits your own criteria of the
way you would like the work to be delegated out.
● You have the power to control the questions. When looking at secondary
research questionnaires, not all questions are relevant at times, therefore
meaning you must have to work around the question which are a necessity for
yourself. When it comes to creating your own questionnaire, you have full
control of the questions therefore creating it the way you are able to get the
answers to your questions.
● Most reliable method of research, as you are creating the questionnaire from
scratch and are physically going to distribute them, you are then confident that
the answers have come from the people you want it therefore improving the
chances of it being authentic.
● Cost Efficient, comparing the prices of printing 20 pieces of paper compared
to setting up a focus group, with the potential of paying for electricity etc..,
having the option to simply distribute pieces of paper which contain the
information you require is by far the more cost efficient route to market
research.
● Lastly, they’re also very practical. As you are physically going out and handing
out the questionnaire to people you can see their reaction of some of the
questions and they may feel the need to explain something in person, but
more importantly they may feel more confident to get their point across to
someone if they’re there in person as it saves time for them writing it all down.
However, during the assignment I had also felt some setbacks. One key aspect that I
had kept in mind is some of the downsides to conducting a questionnaire and I had
highlighted some of which i could have faced.
