D1: Evaluate the extent to which the design of a selected website helps the
originating organisation to meet its objectives.

Introduction
In this assignment I will be evaluating the extent to which the design of the website of
eBay helps to meet the aims and objectives of organisation, I will be for this looking at
all the aspects of the actual company website and linking these points to how they help
achieve the aims and objectives.

The organisation that I have used for this assignment is eBay and the target group that
I was aiming the assignments at was ages 18+. The main aims and objectives of eBay
are to gain sales of $6 Billion, to gain net income of 5%. Another objective of eBay is to
make their internet sites more exciting and appealing towards customers and make sure
the websites are fully protected.

Homepage
Now I will be showing you each page one by one and explaining how the design of
these pages helps eBay to meet their aims and objectives. The first page that I will be
showing is the Homepage.

The way that eBay have designed this page they made sure that they had their target
market in mind by company’s aims and objectives this is because in the original eBay
website they used a theme which is best fitting of the weather, eg: if it is winter, they will
advertise jumpers etc.. and during times of summer, their homepage will consist of
barbeque sets etc.. By them using an active theme it will already be help meet the
target groups requirements which will help towards the company achieving the sales
figure that they have aimed to get over the next 5 years because they will be gaining
more customers. Having promotional offers as such is an easy way of promoting newly
added products and seasonal lines which are bound to sell out quickly and it has
benefitted eBay massively during different times of the year.

Another area that is included on the eBay website is the clear calls of actions that they
have used, an example of this is the add to basket feature. I can link this back to my
previous assignment to an article that I looked at which explained the sorts of areas that
customers like to see on websites.
So from the customers liking this, it then attracts more customers to the website
because people like to sometimes skip processes that require effort and like to go
straight to the conclusion of the process straight away. Which in turn meets 2 of their
objectives which were, firstly to make sure that their website is more exciting and
attractive to customers. And also to gain sales of at least $6 billion. They would reach
