There are 5 different organisational structures:
Hierarchical
A hierarchical structure has a longer ‘chain of command’. Employees are ranked at many
different levels within the organisation; each level is one above the other. It will have many
different levels of employees all reporting upwards to team leaders and then up to operational
management.
Aims and Objectives:
The advantages of a hierarchical structure are:
Authority and responsibility are clear and well defined
Opportunities for promotion motivates employees
The disadvantages of a hierarchical structure are:
Communication between different departments may be less effective
It may be more difficult for the business to adapt and change
