PLANNING AND RUNNING OF THE EVENT
As a collective group of three we decided to designate the ‘5-a-side’ football tournament to be
our event, ahead of the cinema night and the 6th form vs teacher match. We thought that this
idea was going to be the most successful one for us because it was an event where we were
able to reach a high audience and participation, as well as a friendly environment, Kids love
football, especially Year 7 as they are playing always football during break and lunch time.
This made us decide this was going to be our event instead of the other possible options.
We did a 5-A-side football tournament on Friday. The event was really good and pleasant as
all the kids were enjoying the games and having a great evening. One of our objectives was to
complete all the 8 forms with a minimum of 5 players. Although, 2 groups had 2 or 3 players
in their squad, others had more than 7 and we were able to replace them to the other teams
and fill them up.
As the tournament started at 3:35, we had enough time to set up all the things we needed in
order to make the event excellent. First of all, as soon as the PE group finished their class in
the sports hall, we started to put 4 benches in each side for the 8 teams. Then, we printed off
the name of the teams so they will easily recognise where they had their sit and also, we did
this in order to us gain more time.
After this, we sorted out the bibs for the teams. We took 7 bibs, 5 for the 5 initial players and
2 for the subs. Then, we draw in a board all the fixtures for this event. We did 2 cups, the
Plate one and the Cup one. They had a total of 10 fixtures, where they competed to get into
the finals and dispute for the 1st and 2nd place or 3rd and 4th place.
At 3:05 we put a table in front of the doors where we stopped the kids to check if they were
on the list where they signed up for the tournament on the sheet that we gave a week before
and to make sure they had already paid. So, before we let them go to the changing rooms we
checked this, and as some of them couldn’t afford to pay on Friday, we allowed them to pay
on Monday.
We chose the specific sport of football as we knew we would have a large customer base and
therefore have a lot of participants and this would increase the competition. One of the most
impressive things is how some girls wanted to play as well, and this made us change our
plans and allow them to play.
However, we had a problem which was that 2 tutors didn’t inform really much about it in
their form time, this made us loss people for the event and time. Because they couldn’t bring
in the money on the day we wanted and also because they weren’t aware of our event. Even
with this problem, we quickly solve it by going to their assembly and telling them about it. A
lot of them signed up for the event and we agreed to let them pay on Monday.
