Assignment Guidance: 011 Coursework (1500 words) Section One (Weighting 25%) Once you have identified which service user group you are going to focus on, research what this group would need from a mental health clinic in their area. Some of these needs will be specific to the service user group you’ve chosen while others will apply to all service users attending a mental health clinic. Pay attention to the description of where the clinic will be located. The main textbook for the module provides a lot of useful background information: Llewellyn, S. & Murphy, D. (2014). What is clinical psychology? Oxford: OUP You might also find useful information by looking up existing mental health service providers for your user group and reviewing what particular services they offer. Make sure that you include references in this section. Section Two (Weighting 60%) Choose at least two clinical psychology competencies to discuss. You can choose to cover more than two but make sure you can cover them in sufficient depth – i.e. don’t just list the competencies, describe and discuss them with reference to the literature. Make sure that you link the competencies to the needs you identified in Section One. E.g. if you have identified in section one that older adults will need a thorough assessment and understanding of the reasons for their distress, you might discuss how clinical psychologists’ training in formulation would meet that need. Note that the general competencies listed are expected to be applicable to all the service user groups at least to some extent. Section Three (Weighting 15%) This section will draw on your knowledge of other professionals’ potential contribution to a multidisciplinary clinic (this was covered in the week 5 seminar). Your funding proposal assignment mostly focuses on justifying why a clinical psychologist should be employed, but in this final section you acknowledge that clinical psychologists might not be competent to provide for all of the needs of your service user group, and identify which other professionals might have complementary skills. Again, this section needs to include references.
