COUN-6360 Discussion Week 1 Latest 2023/2024.
VERIFIED

By Day 3 of Week 1
1. Describe one early development of assessment that might influence your
use of assessment methods for the woman in the video.
One early development of assessment that would possibly influence my use of
assessment methods after observing the woman in the video would be the
emergence of word association used by Carl Jung. Carl Jung developed a list of
words that he examined his clients’ responses to the words to determine any
problematic areas in their lives or neurotic areas. Moreover, his student,
Herman Rorschach, developed the Rorschach Inkblot test, which paved the way
for many other kinds of projective tests (Neukrug & Fawcett, 2015).
2. Identify as many clinical observations and interpretations about the
woman’s verbal and nonverbal behaviors as possible.
While watching the video, I noticed the woman lowered her eyes in the
beginning when she discussed how she has been feeling lately. In addition, her
hand movements and gestures signaled some frustration and maybe confusion
and her eyes rolled in the back of her head. On the verbal aspect, her voice
elevated when she was given a suggestion or recommendation that she did not
agree with.
3. Discuss formal or informal assessment methods that could be used to
facilitate processing the woman’s feelings further to better understand
her problem.
I think that observation and clinical interview would aid in the process of
understanding and processing the woman’s feelings. Observation would assist
in developing a clearer understanding of her feelings. An environmental
assessment would aid in the process of developing a sense of understanding her
feelings as well. Collecting information about her from her home and work
environments through self-report would be helpful as well. I feel that an
environmental assessment could possibly reveal any stressors that could be
leading to her feeling the pressure she has been feeling so heavily.
4. Describe the behaviors you observed that may warrant formal
assessment and identify one formal assessment method you would
use to assess the problem.
Behaviors that I observed to justify the need for a formal assessment would be
when she obviously became upset when she was given advice or suggestions as
to what could possibly be causing her frustration. Her body movement and tone
of voice indicated upset and a little anger when provided with advice. I think
this would warrant for a personality assessment to measure temperament of how
easily she became frustrated or angered.
