However limited reach and entrain (draw in) air as they operate Fog nozzles classified in two ways - 1)Variable flow provide a different flow rate depending on the fog pattern selected, all fog nozzles in FDNY are variable flow 2)Variable Pressure will allow their nozzle pressure to change as fog pattern is adjusted,all fog nozzles in FDNY are also variable pressure 1 3/4 fog nozzle - -used with 1 3/4 hose -1 1/2 coupling and a fog tip -Pressure required at tip is 100psi -at 100psi the flow rate can reach 200 gpm -at 200gpm the reaction is 101 pounds -fog nozzle can be a straight stream or fog stream -straight stream rotated to the right -fog pattern the tip is rotated to the left, further left it goes the wider the fog pattern 2 1/2" Fog Nozzle - -used with 2 1/2 hose -2 1/2 coupling and fog tip -required pressure is 100 psi at tip -at 100 psi the flow rate is 250 gpm -at 250 gpm the reaction is 121 pounds -fog nozzle can be a straight stream or fog stream -straight stream rotated to the right -fog pattern the tip is rotated to the left, further left it goes the wider the fog pattern Fittings - A hose connection that allows dissimilar couplings to become coupled , also allows for different size couplings to be connected 4 categories Reducer Fitting - Allows for larger male couplings to connect to smaller female couplings Increaser fitting - Allows for smaller male couplings to connect to larger female couplings Double male fitting - Allows for 2 female couplings of same size to be connected Double female fitting - Allows for two male couplings of the same size to be connected Fittings are available in all necessary sizings for the 4 categories, multiple fittings may be used - There also exists a fitting designed as a hydrant connection which is a double female with different size couplings, one side has 4 1/2 thread for the hydrant and the has 3" threads for a 3 1/2 hose connection Adapter - A fitting that allows for connection with FDNY threads and NST threads or National pipe threads Four categories 1-adapter with male FDNY coupling and female NST 2-adapter with female FDNY coupling and male NST 3-double male adapter with male fdny and male NST 4- Double female adapter with female FDNY and female NST National pipe threads - Deeper then NST and FDNY threads (More threads..longer) In line pressure gauge - Used to measure the pressure and flow being delivered from a standpipe system, it DOES NOT regulate water flow it simply monitors the pressure and flow being supplied Spanner Wrench - Used to tighten and loosen hose couplings 2 basic types Flip open carried by firefighter in bunker coat pocket Straight spanner carried on apparatus Hose Strap - Used to secure a hoseline that has been stretched a distance vertically to prevent hose from falling back down, commonly used when performing a well hole stretch, fire escape stretch, or a rope stretch. Two types of hose straps, every firefighter is issued one, ideal location to secure is just below the coupling to minimize the likelihood of the hose slipping - 1-rope hose strap with hook has a metal hook and opposite end has a loop in rope 2-noon hose strap with carabiner one end has a loop in nylon strap other has a red carabiner Engine company hose requirements - -20 lengths of 1 3/4 hose... At least 4 lengths shall be carried either rolled or arranged in roll up one length maintained with 1 3/4 nozzle - 1 length of 2" lightweight hose with a 2" nozzle and 1" mst attached (green/red stripe)should be arranged in roll up -3 lengths of 2 1/2 lightweight hose with 2 1/2 nozzle and 1 1/8 MST(white/red stripe) maintained as a roll up with one length having a 2 1/2 nozzle attached -30 lengths of 2 1/2 hose -10 lengths of 3 1/2 hose Typical hose load - One bed of 3 1/2 One bed of 2 1/2 Two beds of 1 3/4 coupled with 2 1/2 hose to finish out the load No more then 6 lengths of - 1 3/4 hose should be used as lead lengths the greater friction loss in this hose precludes the use of more lengths without the danger of exceeding maximum working pressure
