Investigative Question:
Will the internal resistance of a battery remain constant as the external resistance of the
circuit and the current through the circuit is changed, with the potential difference across
the battery therefore changing, if the temperature of the battery, the cells used, and the
wires used are kept constant?

Aim:
To determine the internal resistance of a battery in a circuit using the potential difference across the
battery and current through the circuit.

Hypothesis:
The internal resistance of a battery will remain constant as the external resistance of the
circuit and the current through the circuit is changed, with the potential difference across
the battery therefore changing, if the temperature of the battery, the cells used, and the
wires used are kept constant.

Variables:
Independent Variables:
- Current through the circuit.
- External resistance of the circuit (resistance of the rheostat).
Dependent Variables:
- Potential difference across the battery.
Controlled Variables:
- Temperature of battery.
- Cells used.
- Electrical wires used (length, thickness, and type of wire).
Constants:
- Internal resistance of the battery.
