RELI 448N Week 2 Reflection Essay Comparative Religion all Complete Solutions Latest Verified Review 2023 Practice Questions and Answers for Exam Preparation, 100% Correct with Explanations, Highly Recommended, Download to Score A+ Reflection Essay Buddhism is a religion that started in India & has now spread across the world. It has over 300 million followers worldwide (World Religions, 1999). It began with the awakening or Enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama who later became known as Buddha. Siddhartha originally lived a luxurious, but very sheltered life until the age of 29 when he became exposed to the suffering of the world. Wanting answers to questions such as why there was suffering, could it be avoided, why do people age & die, is there an afterlife & rebirth, & how should we live, Siddhartha left behind the luxurious life as he knew it in search of answers (Molloy, 2013). Siddhartha spent the next 6 years with 5 nomad seekers who later became his first disciples, living on as little food, drink, & sleep as possible. Living this ascetic life, Siddhartha became very week & collapsed under a tree. A young girl who thought he was a God offered him a bowl of rice. Siddhartha accepted & realized that living a life of asceticism was not helping him find the spiritual release that he was looking for, so he adopted a path of moderation known as the Middle Way & his companions ab&oned him (B, 2014). Siddhartha went to another tree, known as the Bhodi, & sat in meditation vowing not to leave until he found the answers he was looking for. This is where he reached his Enlightenment & saw suffering, aging, & death as an inevitable part of life, but also saw a possibility of release (Molloy, 2013). After his Enlightenment, Siddhartha became known as Buddha. He met back up with his previous nomad companions, told them of his Enlightenment, & they became his first disciples. Buddha then spent the rest of his life, until his death at the age of 80, traveling across northeast Indian teaching his insights & his way of life. He gained many followers, established communities of monks & nuns, & his teachings spread throughout the world long after his death (B, 2014).
