A Distinction* worth of work marked by an examiner. P4 is a report that describes why resorts may be in decline or are vastly developing. I describe this referring to Butler’s model. In M3 I analyze the reasons for the development and decline of selected destinations in the European travel market. In D2 I justify how current factors could impact on the European travel market in the near future.

P4 – Review factors that have contributed to one declining and one
developing destination in the European travel market.

This report will describe why resorts may be in decline or are vastly
developing. I will describe this referring to Butler’s model.

Resort in declining

Faliraki is a seaside resort village on the Greek island of Rhodes, in the
Dodecanese. Faliraki was considered to be one of the most popular resort for
the nightlife and its beaches. The town, initially, was an ideal destination where
culture, history, tradition and natural beauty were alive. The destination wasn’t
known by the tourists at that point of time as the place was unspoilt that’s why
there was less visitors.

Nevertheless, local food and traditional Greek cuisine were the resort’s
particularity. The destination had its ancient landmarks and it successfully
combines a lively present with a rich historical past. Architectures represent the
prehistoric era. Lindos is one of the monuments that has been declared subject
to preservation and thus has been able to retain its traditional colour. The
archaeological museum of Rhodes is the medieval building that contains lots of
art collections. There are more important buildings of ancient acropolis where
there are buildings from the Archaic, Byzantine and Knights' periods. Monastery
and ancient temples are Medieval marks such as Palace of the Grand Master of
the Knights of Rhodes. Seven springs is a historical place in Rhodes,
hospitalises magical landscape and a real oasis.

Being a seaside resort, the area’s advantage was trying to drag more people
because people enjoy spending time in seaside. For example, Paralia Kathara is
a small gulf close to the Faliraki center, it is picturesque and it offers a less
crowded time, it is organised and is a good option for families with shallow
clear waters. Kathara Bay, which is one of the most picturesque on the island
and has a nudist beach at one end.

Afterwards, Faliraki started to hospitalize different type of visitors. Tour
operators found potentials in that area, so people started to fly in that area.
They, in fact, started to invest money to grow that place. Now, following my
statement I am going to justify each point that I mentioned above.
