Leadership is an important part of nursing. Nurse leaders should be well aware of the
leadership styles that are effective and embrace them. Fostering communication that is effective
and collaboration among the team members being led is also very important. This paper focuses
on discussing leadership and collaboration experience and ethical experience.
Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience
There have been many instances where I was required and needed to motivate a team to
effectively collaborate. One such time was when I was a charge nurse at a facility I was working
in. This occurred within the initial period of getting the responsibility to be a charge nurse. This
was a huge responsibility for me especially because there were some challenges experienced by
almost all the nurses during the time. As a charge nurse, I was responsible for specific shifts
within the emergency department I was working in. Although, I had a small team to manage, this
helped improve my leadership skills. During this period, the facility was upgrading the
technological system for more effective provision of healthcare given to patients. This was met
by a lot of resistance, especially from the nurses. During the initial stages, the introduction of the
upgraded system resulted in negative impacts on care because nurses were spending too much
time trying to understand the system and not care for the patients. This led to negative impacts on
patient care and too much pressure and stressful environment for the nurses. At this point,
something had to be done to help both the nurses and the patients. One of the things noted is that
there was no collaboration between the Information Technology experts and the healthcare
providers using the technology, including the nurses. Noting this problem, I aimed and worked
