General Supervision: Supervision in which the physical therapist is accessible at all times by two-way communication and available for consultation during treatment and in the same geographic location. 2000 Board Powers and Duties (2 questions) Continuing Education Requirements: - 24 contact hours of continuing education are required (every two years) renewal period for active licenses. (2.4 continuing education units) 1 contact hour = 50 minutes 1 continuing education unit = 10 contact hours Maximum continuing education hours per subject area: - Risk management: 5 Hours - HIV/AIDS education: 3 hours - Prevention of medical errors: 3 hours Home study: 12 hours for active licensees - Only 6 hours allowed with an inactive license Clinical Instructors get one contact hour for 160 hours of clinical externship for a maximum of 6 contact hours. - Must be accredited by the PT association. Florida Physical Therapy Association Passing Florida Laws and Rules Examination: - Counts for 2 contact hours; unless taking the exam due to disciplinary action Compliance with Continuing Education Requirements: - Department will establish an electronic system to track licensee compliance with continuing education at the time of renewal. Requirements for Instruction in HIV/AIDS Education: - 1 Contact Hour of HIV/AIDS - Must be completed by the first biennial renewal of the licensee. Requirements for Human Trafficking Education: - 1 Contact Hour of Human Trafficking Education - This course can be completed via home study. Requirement for Prevention of Medical Record Errors Education: - 2 Contact Hour of medical error prevention courses - Courses can be completed via home study 3000 Licensure and Examination (3 questions) PT; renewal of license, inactive status; reactivation of license; fees - Renewal fee not exceed $200 - For an inactive license (no more than 10 classroom hours shall be required per year) that a license is inactive All applicable fees must be paid before reactivation: - Application fee, renewal fee, delinquency fee, and a reactivation fee. All continuing education hours must be met prior to activation; Licensee can fulfill one of the following instead of the continuing education requirements: - Practice PT in good standing in another state for four years preceding the filing for reactivation. - Passes the licensing exam within 5 attempts PTA; renewal of license; inactive license, reactivation of a license, fees. - Renewal fee must not exceed $150 - For an inactive license no more than 10 classroom hours per year that the license was inactive are required. The licensee can fulfill one of the following instead of the continuing education requirements: 1. Practice PT in good standing in another state for four years preceding the filing of the application. 2. Applies for and passes the licensing exam within a maximum of five attempts. 4000 Patient Care Management and use of Titles (14 questions) Prohibited Acts; penalty Unlawful for any person to: Practice, or attempt to practice, Physical Therapy: 1. Without a license or temporary permit 2. With a license that is suspended, revoked, or void Obtain or try to obtain a temporary or actual license via a fraudulent misrepresentation. Unlawful to identify as a PTA or PT if not a therapist or if a license is suspended or revoked. Violations of this section are a misdemeanor of the 1st degree. punishment can include: 1. imprisonment that will not exceed one year 2. A fine that will not exceed $1,000 Documentation/medical records Medical records of deceased, relocating or terminating practice PT or PTA. Licensees must maintain medical records as long as needed to protect clients/patients and to protect themselves. Subject to disciplinary proceedings if this is not met.
