Factors Causing Road Traffic Collisions and Injury
Introduction
In the UK there are 128,000 amount of road collisions in the last year. (https://www.gov.uk/ 2021)
Therefore, it is important to make people aware of the certain important factors that can cause
detrimental effects on lives, so we know how best to avoid for next time. Therefore, the main aim in
this report will be about highlighting factors that can cause large road collisions and some potential
serious injuries and how to safer when driving on the road.
Human factors
Human factors are a large cause of road traffic collisions and infact, are the largest cause of road
traffic collisions:
-A very common example of human factor involved in road traffic collision is alcohol and driving.
Drink Driving- Alcohol:
-The blood limit for alcohol is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 militres of blood and 35 micrograms
per 100 millilitres of breath would be the breath limit. (https://www.drinkaware.co.uk) /
www.nidirect.gov.uk(2015).
The way in which we can measure units in drink is by multiplying total volume of drink with the ABV
and alsl dividing this by 1000.
-The way in which a breathalyser would work is by person’s breath that would have reaction with
potassium dichromate if there is alcohol, what would happen is that the solution would be green but
also the change in colour would produce electrical current.
-What is shown by the studies is that when people are under the influence of alcohol, the response
to stimuli is very slow when comparing to when the person is actually sober. Clearly the excessive
alcohol can impair coordination and studies have shown reaction time may be decreased by up to 15
percent.
