NURS 6521 assignment week 2 pathophysiology
Case StudyA 42-year-old man comes to the clinic with a chief complaint of pain, redness, andswelling of his right calf. He states that he had been working in his yard using a string trimmerwhen the trimmer slipped and cut his leg. He cleaned the wound with water from the garden hoseand covered the wound with a large Band-Aid. Several days later, he developed a fever to 100.6˚F and chills and noticed that his leg was swollen and red. He comes to the emergency departmentfor definitive care.IntroductionAfter the trauma via trimmer, bacteria has entered the breached skin and thus lead to theaccumulation of neutrophils and other cells at the site. This has caused production ofantimicrobial peptides and keratinocyte proliferation, producing characteristic finding ofcellulitis i.e. redness, edema and fever. As the superficial layer is also involved and thereare symptoms of redness with chills, indicates erysipelas. Also, it is hard to distinguishbetween cellulitis and erysipelas based on clinical symptoms. The Adaptive responses include the physical reaction of body defense mechanisms todisease or injury (McCance & Heather, 2019). One should be able to recognize signs andsymptoms as an advanced practitioner that indicates uneven homeostasis of the body to diagnoseand treat diseases correctly. The goal of this paper is to discuss the pathophysiology of thedisease process, identify genes associated with the development of the disease, and explain theprocess of immunosuppression.
