Binary Fission - It's used by prokaryotes. DNA is copied and moves to opposite sides of the cell. The cell wall and membrane is pinched closed which leaves two genetically identical cells. Mitosis - Chromatin condenses into chromosomes and lines up in the center of the cell and the nucleus dissolves. The chromosomes split and move to opposite sides of the cell. New nuclei form and the cell splits into two genetically identical cells. Interphase - Genetic material is copied. Prophase - The genetic material has condensed from chromatin to chromosomes and the nucleus dissolves. Metaphase - The chromosomes line up in the center of the cell and are connected to something in either side of the cell. Anaphase - The chromosomes split and move to opposite sides of the cell. Each side of the cell has a complete set of genetic information. Telophase - A new nucleus has formed on the opposite ends of the cell and the chromosomes have returned to chromatin. Cytokinesis - The cell has divided and the cytoplasm of the two cells are sealed. Prokaryotes - They are bacteria. It doesn't have organelles, less DNA, and are smaller than eukaryotes. Endosymbiosis - It was thought that mitochondria and chloroplasts were bacteria but became involved in a mutualistic symbiotic relationship.
