M1-Explain the methods used to identify the target market for the proposed business.

In this task, I will be explaining the methods that are used to identify the target market.I will be
explaining all of these methods and how they benefit my business and I will also be doing it for the
proposed business which is my very own business called “Taste Budz”

There are many methods that can be used to be able to identify the target market for any business. I
have chosen three methods to do and the three methods are:

 Questionnaires
 Interviews
 Focus groups

Questionnaires

A questionnaire consists of different questions that are given to people to answer and then their
answers are transferred into information which can be analysed and used by the business. It is one
of the most common methods for businesses to use to be able to identify who exactly their target
market is.

I will be using questionnaires as I will be able to gain data from the customers themselves about
what their needs/demands are to be able to maximise the amount of customers that my business
will gain and the most amount of sales means that I will be getting a higher amount of profit.
Questionnaires are very vital for my business to use as this is going out to the customers and actually
getting the information from the customers. With this, customers will feel that we value their
opinion which may make them want to come to our coffee shop when it opens and do regular visits.

There are many advantages to using questionnaires to conduct research in order to identify the
target market. The first advantage of questionnaires would be that responses can be collected quite
easily because it is a matter of ticking or circling their options. Also another advantage would be that
a lot of information can be collected from this type of research because it doesn’t take a long time to
do a questionnaire. Also once the questionnaires have been completed, it is very easy to analyse the
data and record this data for future references.

Although there are advantages, there are also disadvantages to using questionnaires. The first
disadvantage would be that the questions that are included in the questionnaire cannot be fully
explained due to the options being either a tick or circle which means that people may not be able to
answer the questions correctly or give correct answers. Also the questionnaire answers could be
biased or inaccurate due to people not being able to completely explain their answers and it can
take a long time for people to explain their answers.

The way I will be using this method is by going out into two different locations in Slough which will
be:

 Chalvey- Where I will be located
 Town centre- Busy area where some of my competitors are located

The reason I have chosen to do Questionnaires in Chalvey is because Chalvey is a very large area
inside of Slough and a lot of people from different culturals and backgrounds are located here. Also
