Surname – given name - surname

2. Terms of address

No Mr. or Mrs. When talking about ourselves.

Never use it by themselves if you wish to be polite.

In terms of address  add the surname

Medical doctor  Doctor without a name
Other kind of doctor  doctor + surname

Sir as a title  Sir + given name
Lady  wife of a Sir person
Dame  woman who has been given a knighthood

3. Please

Not necessary when handing over an object

When we make a request of any kind, asking somebody to do or give us something

4. Thank you

Expressing gratitude or acknowledgement.

You want what is offered  Yes please
You don’t want what is offered  No thank you

5. Sorry, excuse me, pardon

The best way to ask for something to be repeated is to say pardon.

6. False friends

Actually = as a matter of fact

Eventually = indicate that a thing will certainly happen in the course of time.
In Dutch  something may possibly happen as a result of something else

Sympathetic = to be understanding, share feelings

7. Abbreviations
