What is the disease? Avian influenza (bird flu) is a disease that spreads among birds.

What are the symptoms of the disease? Symptoms in birds include lack of appetite, respiratory
distress, swollen heads.

How is the disease transmitted? the virus can be spread from bird to bird by airborne transmission
or through faecal contamination of material, feathers or feed.

How can the disease be prevented or treated? Avian flu could be prevented by keeping birds in
fenced or netted outdoor areas, keep food and water in enclosed areas so wild birds can not access
them and keep everything clean and disinfected.



Myxomatosis
What is the disease? myxomatosis is a disease in rabbits caused by a poxvirus called myxoma, in
some rabbits (south American) it is a mild disease but in other rabbits (especially European rabbits) it
causes a sever disease.

What are the symptoms of the disease? symptoms include lethargy, swelling, redness, ulcers,
respiratory problems, loss of appetite, nasal and eye discharge.

How is the disease transmitted? myxomatosis is spread between rabbits by blood sucking insects
(fleas, ticks, mites, mosquitoes), it can also be spread by contact with an infected rabbit and the
disease can survive for days to weeks in hutches, food bowls.

How can the disease be prevented or treated? The best way to prevent Myxomatosis is by regular
vaccinations.



Brucellosis
What is the disease? an infectious disease caused by bacteria.

What are the symptoms of the disease? abortions, stillbirth, infertility in most species of animals.
Other signs can include arthritis in cows and pigs, mastitis and lameness in goats, and oozing skin
lesions in horses

How is the disease transmitted? direct contact with infected animals or with an environment that
has been contaminated with discharges from infected

How can the disease be prevented or treated? Vaccination

Canine parvovirus
What is the disease? is a virus that causes severe illness and death in dogs. It damages the
lining of the intestines

What are the symptoms of the disease? vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, temperature change
