M2 Compare the effectiveness of different teams.
Introduction
In this assignment I will be comparing the two teams in my class and also how and
why some teams are more successful than others. I will also be comparing how the
different styles of leadership are like in certain situations. Most specifically I will be
giving examples of two scenarios in where I was in a team and depending on the
performance of the individuals and how it had affected the team itself.
Compare the two teams and their leaders
The first team which I will be comparing will be when I was in high school when there
was an annual sports day, a number of students would be chosen at random to
compete against a different group. I was picked to do tennis and volleyball with boys
and girls from year 8 and 9, we named our team Turbo. I got to pick whether I
wanted to play a match in volleyball or tennis and I picked tennis as I felt more
comfortable in it. The second team I will also be comparing was working as a team of
three on a task at college. We were given the option to choose who we would want
to work with, I specifically chose Sherry as they are my close friends and I knew we
would work well as a team. My team which consisted of three including myself,
Sherry had come to an agreement of having me as a team leader in which I
accepted the role that was offered.
1. Leadership
In the first team I found the leadership to be very good as the leader of the Turbo’s
tennis team was experienced in tennis and had played many times in real matches
against people. This was an advantage for my team as we had an experienced
leader who knew what she was doing, for example she would instruct us on how we
should hold our racket and the area we should stand in the court. In my second team
I found myself to be a reasonably good leader as I was fully committed to the
responsibility of leading the group to pass the task. I understood what was expected
of me by the other team members and made it my responsibility to instruct the group
overall.
2. Communication
In the first team our communication was good as we spoke to one another as a
mutual friend and assisted one another around the tennis court. For example even
though we did not know each other in the group as we were from different year
groups, we formed a mutual understanding and I found that gave us an advantage
when helping one another. In my second team I found it easy to communicate with
the group member as we were all friends before doing the task and I found this as an
advantage as we communicated very well as a group, as we discussed with one
another about the work and problems that has arose. An example of this was
continuously having a meeting about the task where we shared ideas.
3. Recruiting the right people
