It could be very beneficial for me to work in a firm for a set period so I could gain some work
experience, get a feel for my career choice and get a wider understanding of the knowledge
that would be needed in the job. If I was to get some experience in an interior design firm it
would be good for me and my understanding of the career and could help me go further as
people would find me more applicable for the job.
Gaining art qualifications would be very useful for me to go into my career choice of interior
design as it would further my skills and my knowledge and would give me the qualifications and
requirements necessary to apply for university courses and any jobs that I would want to go
into. By having qualifications it would give me a wider choice of courses that I could apply to
and it would be seen as more employable to employers, making it easier for me to get hired or
took onto a course.
If i was to carry out on the job training it would mean that I would get a feel on the job and the
tasks that i would be doing whilst earning a salary and being paid at the same time. By doing
this it would mean i would have knowledge on the job and the work I would be doing within it
so I would have better performance. I would be gaining experience whilst doing on the job
training and would be prepared and learned by someone working in the job to make sure that I
knew the correct procedures.
I could also do some work shadowing of an employee in a interior design firm, by doing this i
would have a better understanding of the job and what it contains. I would not have the
experience as I would not be carrying out the tasks but I would gain knowledge and would be
more suited for the job after I had shadowed someone doing their work. This would help me
further my career as I would have a better understanding.
I could also carry out of the job training which is where I would learn a wider knowledge of the
job and the tasks that would be complete before starting the job and doing the tasks. This
would be beneficial for me as I would have a wider amount of freedom and would be able to
learn with more room for mistakes and less pressure. This would be good for the business as I
would not be impacting their profits if mistakes were to be made. By doing this I would have a
lot of room for progression and the firm would be focused on training me and not just being
productive for the business. I would not gain the experience of the job but I would have the
knowledge that I could later apply.
I could also look into gaining a qualification such as an NVQ in interior design, if i was to gain a
qualification such as this then it would mean I would have the experience and the qualifications
that would be needed to get into a job in interior design. This would put me at an advantage
from other people as I would have more experience and would be more likely to get a position
in a firm.
