Answer 4 out of 5 Questions.
, Preparation for the Exam
1. Revise the Notes for each of these topics thoroughly
Lecture Slides are all on Moodle
Panopto Recordings of lectures may be found in Panopto Box
on the GEEN 1127 Moodle page. Please note that Panopto
was not usually available in the lecture room (Pilkington Open
Space) to record the classroom sessions. However, I have
uploaded home recordings of all lectures made during
lockdown (2020-21).
These may differ very slightly from this year`s lectures but will
nevertheless provide very good guidance.
Note that the Panopto Box is in the right hand column
of the moodle page and may be found after scrolling to
the bottom of the page.
Give yourself plenty of time to go through all this material ( I would
recommend 30+ hours revision time for this subject to give yourself
the best chance of passing and obtaining a good grade.
The lecture notes are sufficient.
However, the Recommended Textbook contains more detailed
information and might help in your understanding of the subject:
Michael Ashby, Hugh Shercliff, David Cebon
Materials: Engineering, Science, Processing and Design
Butterworth-Heinemann
2. Work through Tutorial Examples given for all of the above topics.
The Tutorials and Solutions are all on Moodle
The Tutorial Questions are indicative of the types of question that
might be asked in the Exam
3. Finally, look at last year`s exam paper to get a better idea of the
format and type of questions that might be asked, and to reassure
yourself that your revision has prepared you thoroughly for the exam.
4. If you do not fully understand a topic read the textbook indicated
above and if you still do not understand contact the tutor for guidance (Dr
Bingley)
