The most interesting medieval manuscripts are truly those documents that include images,
coloured pigment, because they truly capture our imagination. Manuscripts are messages from
the past to us.
These colour pigment manuscripts truly help us understand the lost worlds of medieval Europe.
The shows us the life of those lost worlds; faith, wars, the culture, ladies, Kings, men. We have
truly been able to understand Europe’s patrimony, culture, and heritage.
Medieval European manuscripts will be explored, and we will try and understand their historical
content/ context, their material meaning. We will try and catalogue their methods, and
periodisation (*) of the pieces. Understanding how they produced/created them, helps then
confirm their historical value, and their content.

Cantigas de Santa María.
