Programming Logic and Design Graded to Pass!!!
Input - Describes the entry of data items into computer memory using hardware devices such as keyboards and mice. Data items - include all the text, numbers, and other information processed by computer. Output - - Describes the operation of retrieving information from memory and sending it to device, such as a monitor or printer, so people can, interpret, and work with the results. Semantic error - occurs when a correct word is used in an incorrect context. Variable - is a named memory location whose value can vary. Program Development cycle - 1) understand the problem. 2) Plan the logic. 3) Code the program. 4)Use software to translate the program into machine language. 5) Test the program. 6) Put the program into production. 7) Maintain the program. Documentation - consists of all the supporting paperwork for a program. Algorithm - is the sequence of steps necessary to solve any problem. IPO chart - is a program development tool that delineates input, processing and outputs tasks. TOE chart - is a program development tool that lists tasks, objects, and events. Debugging - the process of finding and correcting program errors. Conversion - Is the entire set of actions an organization must take to switch to using a new program or set of programs. Input symbol - Indicates an input operation and is represented by a parallelogram in flowcharts. Processing symbol - indicates and output operation and is represented by a parallelogram in flowcharts. Output symbol - Indicates an output operation and is represented by a parallelogram in flowcharts. Terminal symbol - or start /stop symbol, is used at each end of a flowchart. Its shape is a lozenge. Loop - is a repetition of a series of steps. Infinite loop - occurs when repeating logic cannot end. Making decision - is the act of testing a value. Decision symbol - is shaped like a diamond and used to represent decisions in flowcharts. Dummy value - is a preselected value that stops the execution of a program. Sentinel value - is a preselected value that stops the execution of a program. EOF - end of file. Declaration - Is a statement that provides a data type and an identifier for a variable. Identifier - is a variable's name. Data type - is a classification that describes what values can be assigned, how the variable is stored, and what types of operations can be performed with the variable. Making declarations or declaring variables - describes the process of naming variables and assigning data type to them. Initializing a variable - Is the act of assigning its first value, often at the same time the variable is created.
