, DISCUSSING FIVE DIFFERENT STYLES OF MANAGEMENT
- Autocratic management is when management makes decisions without having
second opinions or input from employees. In short, the manager tells the employees
what to do and the employees do it. This does lead to a negative impact on
employee morale as employees can not express their creative ideas (Baumgardt,
Dalla Pria, Du Plessis, Kamala, McKinlay, Paul, Porthen, Renard & Van Rooyen, 2017).
- Persuasive management is when the manager decides on a plan for the business
and then proceeds to communicate with the employees on why this is the best
decision for the business (Baumgradt et al., 2017).
- Consultative management is where feedback and the opinions of the employees are
relied on by the manager to make a decision for the business. This has an advantage
due to having higher employee morale as well as a better relationship between the
manager and employees (Baumgradt et al., 2017).
- Democratic management is where decisions are made due to the majority vote. This
method is time-consuming and might lead to a delay in actions (Baumgradt et al.,
2017).
- Chaotic management is when full control and decision-making are given to the
employees. Employees do take full responsibility as well. With the advantage of
having a wide creative environment, it would also have a misguided business as well
(Baumgradt et al., 2017).
DISCUSSING THE THREE MANAGERIAL LEVELS
There are three levels of management within a business:
- Top-level management
- Middle-level management
- Supervisory-level management
Top-level management is where all the control and power of the business are. It is normally
made up of the board of directors, the CEO, and the CFO. The strategic planning, objectives,
policies, and the overall direction of where the business is heading are controlled and
decided by the top-level management (Baumgradt et al., 2017).
Middle-level management is comprised of your managers, who are in their own way a
leader of a specific team or area depending on the sector or industry they are involved in.
Managers are responsible for being the communication structure between low-level
management and top-level management (Baumgradt et al., 2017).
