Bv. gegevens van 8 studenten: leeftijd (X) in jaren en behaalde scores (Y) op test
- X: 18, 20, 19, 21, 17, 16, 19, 20
- Y: 85, 90, 88, 92, 84, 80, 87, 90
1. Bereken gemiddelden van X en Y
- Gemiddelden X ( x ): (18 + 20 + 19 + 21 + 17 + 16 + 19 + 20) / 8 = 18,5
- Gemiddelden Y ( y ): (85 + 90 + 88 + 92 + 84 + 80 + 87 + 90) / 8 = 87,25
2. Bereken standaarddeviaties van X (sx) en Y (sy)
- Sx = √(0.25 + 2.25 + 0.25 + 6.25 + 2.25 + 6.25 + 0.25 + 2.25) / (8-1) = 1.69
- Sy = √(5.0625 + 7.5625 + 0.5625 + 22.5625 + 10.5625 + 52.5625 + 0.0625 + 7.5625) / (8-1) = 3.92
3. Bereken z-scores voor elke waarde in X en Y (oftewel hetgeen tussen haakjes)
- Zx = -0.30, 0.89, 0.30, 1.58, -0.89, 0.30, 0, 0.89
- Zy = -0.57, 0.70, 0.19, 1.21, -0.83, -1.85, -0.06, 0.70
4. Bereken pearson R op basis van z-scores
- R = (Zx * Zy) / n = (-0.30 * -0.57 + 0.89 * 0.70 + 0.30 * 0.19 + 1.58 * 1.21 +
-0.89 * -0.83 + 0.30 * -1.85 + 0 * -0.06 + 0.89 * 0.70) / (8-1) = 0.69

 Voorspelling (regressie) ^y =b0 +b1 X (b0 + b1 x individueel)
Bv. correlatie tussen aantal maximaal punten op de eerste 4 toetsen en aantal punten dat ze halen op
de laatste toets is 0.60. Gemiddelde aantal punten op de 4 toetsen is 280 met standaarddeviatie 30.
Gemiddelde score op 5e toets is 75 met standaarddeviatie 8. Totaalscore van Julia op de eerste 4
toetsen is 300. Bereken voorspelling van de score van Julia haar 5e toets.
1. Bereken b1
Bv. r x sy / sx = 0.60 x (8 /30) = 0.16
Correlatie = 0.60 standaarddeviatie y = 8 standaarddeviatie x = 30
2. Bereken b0
Bv. gemiddelde y – b1 x gemiddelde x = 75 – 0.16 x 280 = 30.2
Gemiddelde y = 75 b1 = 0.16 gemiddelde x = 280
3. Bereken voorspelling
Bv. ^y = b0 + b1x = 30.2 + 0.16x = 30.2 + 0.16 x 300 = 78.2
