1. I do believe that a PLC will benefit this school, the teachers, and the students.
A PLC will benefit teachers in the following ways:
• A PLC ensures that teachers act in a professional manner, this means
not sitting and chatting with the students, instead they will learn to and be
an authority figure to the students instead of a friend.
• A PLC invites teachers to share ideas. The teachers at this school could
get ideas from other PLC members on how to handle the supposed lack
of respect from the student’s part in an effective and sensitive way.
• The teachers that are younger, who have less experience will learn from
more experienced teachers who act as mentors. The inexperienced
teachers may learn to handle their students better and learn to enjoy their
profession more with the help of their mentor.
• The teachers share a mutual vision of ensuring that learning is the main
priority, this means that they are committed to learning new things instead
of just focussing on teaching using old ways that do not seem to be
affective in the school.
• The teacher morale may go up as they are actively involved with other
teachers and are part of something where they are truly valued and
heard. This may lead to better communication between colleagues and
have ideas being shared between them to improve teaching practices
used at the school.
A PLC will benefit the students in the following ways:
• A PLC being implemented in the school would be beneficial to the
learners this is because a PLC improves teacher practice which in turn
improves student learning which currently is not happen at all.
• A PLC allows for the improvement of a learner’s well-being, this may
include their emotional well-being. This means that the teachers at the
school would be able to show the learners how to have manners and how
to behave well emotionally, instead of using disrespect.
• With a new classroom climate that a PLC brings, the students will be
more motivated to go to class and to learn and this also means that there
will be less absenteeism and bunking.
• When a PLC is introduced, the teachers are encouraged to teach and
focusing on teaching. This means that if the students see that their
teachers are excited about school they will be as well.
• With school morale higher, you may find that students will want to go to
school and want to learn, this means that they are more likely to do better
in their tests and exams because they are not missing out and do not
want to miss out on work.
