QUESTION 1

1. An inclusive learning environment is that of which we practice creating a supportive
classroom and school that involves and meets the diverse needs of all students. In
South Africa inclusivity aims to rid society of inequalities and discrimination.
2. The transformative approach is when a ‘transformative’ teacher brings about different
teaching practices and implements equity, justice and democracy in the classroom.
We define a transformative teacher as someone who develops an inclusive learning
environment.
3. The broader approach to support helps to know how things work. It helps to convince
people of one’s identity. It helps to empower people in goal setting and putting in
effort.
4. Disruptive behaviour is that of when a student struggles to maintain discipline in the
classroom, this is mostly a deliberate act. For example, the student continuously
interrupts the teacher or engaging with other learners while the lesson is taking place.
Learning difficulties, on the other hand, are not deliberate acts and may include
difficulties with reading, writing or concentration. Both disruptive behaviour and
learning difficulties can be managed if the teacher gathers as much information about
the student as possible and works with a professional or specialist to solve these
issues.
5. It is important that support is built into the classroom and this school. To build this
support in the classroom, the teacher should identify, address and assess learning
barriers that prevent students from fully taking part in learning. The teacher could also
get help from The Department of Education in setting up learning programmes that
support the teacher in addressing these barriers. Teachers should also investigate how
they can change their teaching methods to avoid or lessen disruptive behaviour which
may become barrier for learners to learn. By addressing these learning barriers and
dealing with them in an appropriate manner, it allows for all learners to learn.

QUESTION 2

1. A teacher needs to apply flexibility to ensure diversity in assessment, an example
would be for students with writing difficulties to have a scribe. A teacher can also
include diverse materials in the assessment, for example, a teacher who needs to do
assessment on comprehension could do different stories throughout the year that
relate to different cultures of which some students may be part of in the classroom.
The teacher can also use different assessment methods as to ensure all students are
able to complete the task fairly, for example, students that have difficulties with sight
could be read the paper out loud and then write down the answers.
