because it was “land hungry”. But let’s see the period between the two World Wars how people lived in
the German Empire and Austria/Hungary (Two main countries). :
1918-1933
The German Empire, and Austria-Hungary were absolutely obliterated, by the Treaty of Trianon, and the
Treaty of Versailles. Punishments :
Austria - Hungary
Country got split between : Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Italy;
Land Loss (about 70-85%) - New countries : Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia;
Demilitarized countries (Austria, and Hungary);
Huge debt;
German Empire
Military limited to 100.000 personnel
Lost Colonies
Air Force banned.
Prussia (Königsberg - today Kaliningrad) split.
The German Empire was renamed to Weimar Republic, its flag was the modern day German Flag.

The Weimar Republic existed from 1918. November 9th, to 1933 February 28th.
In the period of 1919 to 1923 the Weimar Republic lived in horrific circumstances. The Germans
sometimes couldn’t find food in their stores till 1923. The cause of this was that the workers were
striking, but in 1923 January France, and Belgium “attacked” the Ruhr factories, where they were forced
to work.

Adolf Hitler was selected German chancellor in 1933 January 30, then in 1934. August 4th was Führer
(Leader). His Political Party was the NSDAP or “Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei” or the
Nationalist Socialist German Workers’ Party. In the beginning on 1923 November 2-3th Hitler rioted in
Bavaria, until he got arrested, until 1924 December 20th.
