Sedimentary Rocks
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this exercise is to help you master the process of identifying
sedimentary rocks. The secondary purpose of this exercise is to help you understand the
relationships between sedimentary rocks and their environments of formation.
Sedimentary Rock ldentification
Use your lab manual and textbook to determine the texture, mineralogical composition, name,
and environment of formation for each sedimentary rock listed below. Sedimentary rock sets are
essentially identical, but you should look at another set after you have completed yours. You are
responsible for learning only the sedimentary rocks numbered in the chart below.
