Name: Eric Asare
Assignment: unit 16 d2
Teacher name: Ryan Simon
Class: 1G
Introduction
In this assignment will access the importance of measuring and managing employee
performance at work. To do this I will explain the terms managing performance and
measuring. Then I will explain how important it is for my chosen organisation to manage and
measure the performance of the employees at the workplace. I will also explain the benefits
of performance management contrasted with the consequences of failing to manage
performance of the workers in the workplace.
The importance of measuring and managing helps a company to improve quality, retain key
employees and be ahead of their competitors. A company can see how well a business is doing by
the amount of customers and profits they make. They can compare how well employees work by
checking each employee individually to see how much they have produced. Measuring employee
development can be done by: Benchmarking, furthermore measuring employee performance is a
key strategy for organizational success. By keeping a fair and consistent evaluation methodology,
managers can determine where inefficiencies exist, identify strong employees for promotion and
development and award salary increases and bonuses in a quantifiable way. I'll be evaluating each
point of why measuring and managing employee performance at work is important.
The reason why it really important for businesses such as Asda to manage and measure the
performance of their employees. For example one of the targets which Pizza Hut can set towards
their employees is to maximise the amount of products sold, from there the managers can measure
and compare the performance of the employees. Furthermore Pizza hut also measure the
performance of the employees punctuality and attendance because if the attendance and
punctuality is high this will show that the employees are well motivated to increase the production
rate at work, whereas if it’s low this will show that the motivation is low, as well as the production
rate. This helps the business organisation take into account, the skills the employee has to carry out
the job role, whether or not if they are taking the job seriously. This also tells the managers about
the different kinds of problems that the employee is facing at workplace and whether or not if they
have the skills to face and solve it. Also this tells the mangers whether or not the employee is using
the skills they have to face the problem. This helps the managers to get to know the worker really
well and it’s an opportunity for the mangers to help the employees in the best way that they can.
Based on the results of the supervision the mangers can decide whether or not if the employees
should be retrained or not.
The reason why it’s important for Tesco to manage the performance of the employees is because
this will allow the overall business to exceed in the production rate and to increase the maximum
sells and this will surely depend on how the business manage their performance of their employees.
Furthermore Tesco will also be able monitor their employee’s progress and managing it by:
Probation - When an employee starts work they are supported and watched by the
mkmanagers to monitor the work.
Appraisal - Review and evaluation of the targets designed to motivate employees.
Mentoring – To mentor the employees and staying under close guards to review and point
out tips for them to improve.
These are a few methods Tesco can use monitors and managers the performances of their
employees also it will help Tesco to make important decisions.
