Spectroscopy is the study of the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and matter. There are many different forms of spectroscopy, all of which deal with different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Examples include IR spectroscopy, NMR, and UV-Vis, the latter of which will be utilized in this experiment (well the vis part anyway). Its value lies in its ability to be both qualitative (i.e. identification of the compound) and quantitative (i.e. to determination of the concentration of the compound).
