Nr 506 Week 4: Challenges in Lobbying Strategies (Latest Update) Already Graded A+
Week 4: Challenges in Lobbying Strategies My healthcare policy issue aims at reducing childhood obesity by implementing physical education programs. In this regard, I will take into account the best communication approach. I will start by calling the elected official to plan for one-on-one meeting. Once the date has been set, I will prepare myself in advance to ensure the discussion runs on smoothly and precisely. I will also drop information that is not related to the healthcare policy. Laxalt (2009) affirms that meeting with legislators allows them to discuss the issue before it is presented to the committee. Moreover, facts should be articulate and concise to help establish professional relationships with the elected officials (Laxalt, 2009). During the meeting, I will try to be as brief as possible while focusing on pertinent issues and as candid and honest as I can. Laxalt (2009) argue that lobbyists should not keep the elected officials longer or even ramble; instead they should ensure that the message is short and concise. Face-to-face is an appropriate technique for communicating with the elected official since I will utilize it as a platform to introduce my healthcare policy issue. While face to face communication is does not take much time, it is also cost-effective. Face to face meetings improve communication by enabling quick delivery of information. I will not only use face-to-face communication to provide details about my policy but rather pitch some of the proposed solutions. The rationale for selecting face-to-face face communication is that it can increase collaboration and innovation to freely share ideas (Duncan & Fiske, 2015). Meeting in person is important when it comes to detecting body language, reactions and tone that can be misinterpreted via digital approaches. In other words, a face to face discourse will enable me get immediate response from the legislator and reactions that make it easier to interpret his feelings towards my healthcare policy concern.
