A. Recount Text
1. Definition
Recount text is the text which tell the past event It is usually about the writer’s experience or someone else’s.
2. Purpose/Aim/Goal
The purpose of text recount is to tell the past event.
3. Characteristic
a. Use the Simple Past Tense
b. Use Conjunction : then, before, after, etc.
c. It usually uses adverb of time such as : yesterday, last week, last holiday, a month ago, etc.
4. Generic structure
a. Orientation (the first paragraph)
Telling about who, where and when the even happened. (Orientation atau pengenalan yaitu memberikan
informasi tentang siapa, di mana, dan kapan peristiwa atau kegiatan itu terjadi di masa lampau.
b. Events (the second paragraph)
Telling about the series of events that existed in the story. (Events merupakan rekaman peristiwa yang
terjadi, yang biasanya disampaikan dalam urutan kronologis, seperti "In the first day, I ... . And in the
next day ... . And In the last day ..." . Di bagian Events ini juga biasanya terdapat komentar pribadi
tentang peristiwa atau kejadian yang diceritakan.
Events in recount can be more than one events.
c. Re-orientation (the last paragraph)
Telling about summary or the feeling expression of writer or someone else.
Visiting Bandung
Last year, I and my schoolmates went to Bandung. We went there by bus. We visited many places of interest in
Bandung.
One Saturday afternoon, it was about one o’clock, we were gathered in the school yard to accept some anouncements
and advises from our teachers before leaving for Bandung. After praying together we left from school.
We arrived Bandung at five o’clock in the morning. We took a bath and had breakfast in the hotel. Then we visited
many tourist object in Bandung such as Geology museum, Mount Tangkuban Perahu, Asia-afrika Building, Ciater, Ciamplas
and Cibaduyut. They were very exciting places to visit.
About at nine o’clock we left Bandung to go home. Arriving at home we felt very tired but we were very happy and
satisfied. It was a wonderful journey.
