Causes
There are many possible causes for this type of behaviour in the classroom. One
of the main causes could be a lack of mutual respect between the teacher and
students. If the students do not feel respected by the teacher, they may be more
likely to act out in class as a way of expressing their feelings. Additionally, if
students do not feel challenged by the material or do not understand the material
being taught, they may become bored and disruptive in class. Other reasons for
this behaviour could include a student’s home life, their relationship with their
peers, or a lack of self-confidence. All of these factors can contribute to a student’s
behaviour in the classroom.
Strategy 1
Set clear expectations and consequences
Scenario for Strategy 1 Explanation
On the first day of school, you can discuss with learners what behavior is expected
of them in the classroom. You can use examples of what good behavior looks like,
like raising your hand before speaking and respecting the opinions of other
students. You can also discuss consequences for misbehaviour, such as skipping
class, detention, or contacting parents.
Explanation 1
One of the most important steps in creating a disciplined classroom is to set clear
expectations and consequences for behavior. It provides an overview of what is
expected of students in terms of behavior, academic performance and participation
in the classroom. You can start the school year by making a list of classroom rules
and discussing them with your students. Once you set these expectations, you
need to communicate the consequences if they are not met. For example, if a
student constantly talks out of turn, the result may be that he loses the right to
participate in class discussions.
