Unit 6 Website Development

Website 1 Tesco:
Tesco is a multinational retailer of general merchandise. The company carries out business
through multi-format stores and online. Since 2010, Tesco has consistently improved its
online business to provide customers with a worthwhile online shopping experience. Tesco
has also launched Click and Collect services which enable its customers to procure their
groceries online and collect them from any store operated by Tesco. Tesco has tried to
target the most competitive services so they can offer the cheapest prices and bring more
customers to Tesco. Tesco's website was the only site to offer users price comparisons with
other stores. Type 'butter' into the Price Checker feature, for example, and the site will
return a list of prices for butter stocked in Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's with Tesco prices
listed alongside. An advantage of the Tesco website is that it is easy to use with clearly
named labels to suit your every need. If you can't find what you’re looking for you can try to
use the search function to see if that can give you some positive results.

Principle of website design
Tesco’s website has many requirements. Tesco’s website is user-friendly which suggests that
the site is straightforward to utilize. There are headings or titles at the top of the page that
can be easily spotted e.g., heading for groceries. Tesco’s website includes a colour scheme,
and the plot is kept the same over the total site. Tesco's website’s homepage appeals to
online shoppers who value ease and can quickly find desired products using a simple search
tool. The main categories are highlighted by headings, including groceries, clothing,
Clubcard, banking, mobile and recipes. Tesco’s website has a navigation system that is
simple to use and understand. It takes a bit of time to get to a specific product, but when
users get used to using the website it’ll take no time to find what they are looking e.g., food
etc. Tesco’s website does not have a way for a user to customise the website for a specific
type of user e.g., blind, deaf people or colour-blind however the website is flexible which
means that the website can adapt to the device the user is using. If it’s viewed on a tablet
the layout can change so the website will be viewed in a portrait view or landscape. If it’s on

, a phone a notification might pop up and it’ll tell the user to download the mobile app from
the play store or app store, so the users do not experience any lags.
Tesco’s website is very user-friendly since it has many headings at the top of the page that
can be easily spotted which means that customers can use the website for whatever they
need rapidly. Tesco’s website does contain a reasonable sum of white space, in any case,
this is often since they don't need to shell users with too much at once. Hence everything is
laid out and adjusted in a way that space is cleared out between each button on the site. A
drawback of the website is its availability of the site. Most individuals can get to the site, be
that as it may, some customers may be blind, deaf, or have a disability meaning they may
struggle to utilize certain things inside the site. For typography, the website has its
important texts in big font sizes and they use small font sizes for subheadings. The website
displays important things at the top of the page or uses high font sizes to catch the
customer’s attention.

Media and objects
Tesco uses the colours blue, red, and white on their website to coordinate with the colours
of the UK flag. In terms of the media that they utilize, their pictures are sized too large
sufficiently so that clients can see the pictures. The media may draw users' attention to
anything Tesco needs to promote, in any case, they must consider how long it takes for the
media to load, which may moreover depend on the user's bandwidth and an internet
connection, so the media that they utilize must have little file sizes, so it loads rapidly for
customers.

Creativity and Innovation
Tesco’s website has a “conventional layout” which means that they got their format done
using a layout template. Typically, as a rule, satisfactory because it takes after the standards
of what a great web plan would be looking like but this also tells that when Tesco was
creating their website they did not think “outside the box”. Tesco’s website uses the
“golden ratio”. This is where the website designers utilize proportions for where everything
on a page ought to be to form the site pages artistically satisfying for customers using the
website. Tesco greatly made use of this method for their website.

Search engine optimization
Search engine optimization is a set of tactics used to increase the number of visitors who
visit a website. Users of search engines are more inclined to click on a link at the top of their
page rather than scrolling down for hours. As a result of making use of these SEO strategies,
website developers are more likely to show higher up on a page.
The use of "meta tags" is one search engine optimization strategy known as "indexing."
Certain search engines utilise "spiders" to analyse websites connected to the word or phrase
