Introduction
Infection control should be taken seriously, not only in nursing care homes but also in other
healthcare settings such as health centers and general hospitals. Infections are the main reason
behind most hospital admissions in nursing homes. Infections account for 27 to 63 percent of all
admissions in these facilities (GAO, 2020). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that
about 2.1 million infections occur annually in acute care hospitals and 1.5 million occur in
nursing homes. Individual adherence to infection control measures such as hand washing
should be encouraged in nursing homes.

The Purpose of the Meeting
The purpose of the meeting was to talk about the newly released
Government
Accountability office's (GAO) report regarding infection control in nursing
homes in the United States (Washington Journal, 2020). According to John
Dicken, the report was driven by the usual responsibility of the GAO's
broader oversight of the federal response to COVID-19 infection as well as
a request from some members of the Senate to look into the issue. GAO
was interested in looking at what happens in nursing homes in terms of
deficiencies in infection control (Washington Journal, 2020). It also looked
into the history of what has been happening in nursing homes before the
pandemic. The GAO provided the report publicly and John Dicken was
invited to speak about the same.
Key Participants
This was an open video 0nline or TV meeting that any willing
individual would take part in. The key participants were John Dicken and
the TV host may also be called the interviewer. Besides, some other public
members or citizens participated through a call from their phones
(Washington Journal, 2020). John Dicken is the Government Accountability
Office's (GAO) Public Health and Private Markets Director. Some of the
participants who called over the phone include Ricky, Joyce, and Brenda.
