, PREFACE
Green hydrogen is a hot topic nowadays that is attracting global attention. It looks set to
make a positive contribution to climate change, sustainability, ecological fuel, etc. However,
this technology is still in its infancy, but it has a promising future. On the positive side, green
hydrogen can be produced entirely from renewable energy, which could be very interesting
for Chile as it has the highest solar radiation in the world and a huge potential for wind energy.
If Chile does well in the production of green hydrogen, it would like to export its surplus
internationally within a few years. Agreements to this effect have already been made to
ensure cooperation between some countries.
Since renewable energy and green hydrogen are hot topics in Chile, I decided in consultation
with my internship company Flanders Investment & Trade to write my bachelor thesis on this
theme. I do not know much about green hydrogen yet, so this subject appealed to me. It is
therefore interesting for Flanders Investment & Trade, for hydrogen-related companies in
Chile and Belgium, and also for me.
I also hope that with this report I can make an overview of which companies can be contacted
to do further business with, and that people have up-to-date information about renewable
energies in Chile.
I would like to thank Mr Piet Morisse and Ms María Elena Duarte for the unique opportunity I
have been given, as well as my internship supervisor Ms Heidi Vervaecke. She guided and
assisted me in writing a correct bachelor thesis. Furthermore, I would like to thank my
methodology coach Mrs. Lies Vandaele and internship coordinator Mrs. Isabelle Boelens for
the support during this process.
This report would not be the same without the people I have been able to interview. Many
thanks to Federico Bernardelli (Ministry of Energy), Alexander Decock (Solcor), Filipe Gallardo
(ACERA), Alfonso (ENGIE), (Port of Antwerp)
I also thank you for your interest in my report and wish you an instructive and enjoyable read.
