Theories of perception include Gestalt psychology, which emphasizes the importance of organizing sensory information into meaningful wholes, and the ecological approach, which emphasizes the role of the environment in perception. Research in sensation and perception has important practical applications in fields such as product design, marketing, and human factors engineering. By understanding how people perceive the world around them, researchers can design products and interfaces that are more intuitive and effective. Sensation and perception research also has implications for understanding and treating disorders such as synesthesia, anosognosia, and sensory processing disorder.
