What is the Subjunctive?
The subjunctive is a mood: a grammatical term which describes the
attitude of the subject of the sentence.
In English, using the subjunctive is rare and formal. It is no longer
used very much.
In the subjonctif, there are only eight verbs with irregular
conjugations: faire, aller, pouvoir, être, savoir, vouloir, avoir. (see
the table below)
The subjunctive in French is very common. It shows the mood of the
subject of the sentence (wish, hope, fear, uncertainty…) toward a fact
or an idea – often involving another person.
